A few words, made simple

Metadata
Extra information stored inside a file, such as a camera model, date, author or GPS position.
EXIF / GPS
Photo information that can include where and when a picture was taken.
New copy
FIXLY reads the picture and creates a fresh file. This can change color or quality; your original stays unchanged.
Good to know

The output is verified for JPEG APP1/APP13/comments, PNG EXIF/text/profile chunks and WebP EXIF/XMP/profile chunks. Basic encoder, color and resolution information may remain. This is not absolute anonymization: faces, signs, reflections and recognizable places remain visible. Re-encoding JPEG and WebP may change quality.

Animated images become a single still image. Re-encoding can change colors and image quality. Compression can produce a larger file; compare before downloading.

Frequently asked questions

Will this hide a face, address or street sign?

No. Those are visible parts of the photo. Cover them with the redaction tool before sharing.

Will the file stay exactly the same quality?

Re-encoding JPG or WebP may change quality and colors. Inspect the new copy and keep your original.

Can I remove hidden data from a PDF here?

No. This tool works on JPG, PNG and WebP. PDF page organization does not promise to remove hidden information.

Does this remove GPS coordinates?

GPS stored in source EXIF is not copied to the new image. FIXLY checks that the EXIF container is absent.

Does removing metadata make a photo anonymous?

No. Visible content, the new filename, sharing accounts and hosting services may still identify you.
